Something New Downtown! Look Up Gallery and Yobel Boutique

It was the last warm day before a deep snowfall, obviously a fortuitous sign for the opening of an art gallery, bar, and boutique in downtown Colorado Springs. Yobel Boutique and Look Up Gallery are pleasantly located at 517 S. Cascade next to the Visitors' Center; however, with the added charm of being around the corner down what the British would call a lovely mews, as opposed to an alley. I wandered there to see two key people giving an interview. One of them, Clay Ross, opened the door for me to the views I captured on the video above. Yes, as can be seen, some of our faves are being shown in the gallery: Suz Stovall, Carole Dickerson, and Joseph Liberti.
In the process of doing the video, I saw a gentleman sitting in the middle of the room thoroughly enjoying the scene. I struck up a conversation with him in which I mentioned that he seemed particularly pleased with the surroundings. He said, "It is just so nice to see so many happy people." And it was true. The sunshine and warm spring weather had obviously come inside, for everyone was in a great mood and thoroughly enjoying themselves and their surroundings.
As can be seen, once one leaves the gallery, the artfulness continues in a boutique full of clothing, and accessories, with room to sit and contemplate them over a drink. This is definitely a place to spend some time as the offerings are unique, of exceptional quality, and great style. Yobel Boutique has a three word motto: People, Planet, Profit. They apply those terms in this way. They only carry products by people who are paid a fair wage for what they create. The 60 different artisans and companies they work with are committed to sustainable practicies that minimize harm to the planet, from the sourcing of materials to the creation and shipping of the products. Finally, they believe that profit does not have to equate exploitation, but rather that the relationship should be a win-win situation.

Yobel refers to "ram's horn" or "trumpet" and to the idea of freedom and release. It has cleverly been translated artistically into something rather Southwestern in image, as can be seen by the logo - echoes of Georgia O'keeffe?
While my stay at Yobel and the Look Up Gallery had to be brief that day, it is definitely a place to visit, shop, and enjoy. I am sure by the quality of artists they are currently showing, that we can expect that the future will be a continuation of those excellent choices and the fine products the boutique offers.
